Working from home? Jazz up your office!

Being based all the way down here in Cornwall leaves us feeling a little bit isolated from all the madness in London surrounding the Olympics. I read this morning at 40% of Whitehall staff are allowed to work from home during the games, in order to help lessen the load on London’s transport network. That just sounds crazy to me! The article then went on to give ’10 tips for home-workers’ and I had a bit of a giggle over not tweeting about Cash In The Attic when you should be working.

Humour aside, the article got my creative juices flowing and I’ve been thinking about what I would do if I suddenly had to work from home. Everyone says that the best thing to do is set up a special, dedicated area to work from or turn a spare bedroom into an office. I decided to have a look at some great idea for decorating your office and ensuring that where you work will excite and inspire you!

Image of Vintage World Map Wallpaper

This World Map custom wallpaper is fantastic if you’d like your office to have many leather bound books and to smell of rich mahogany. Beautifully refined and simply oozing class, it will definitely put you in that ‘working’ mood.

If you like your office to be a bit funkier, or maybe you’re a developer or video game designer, you’ll love our Space Invader wall stickers. Available as large, singular invaders or smaller ones in multipacks, you can really let your creativity run wild and create an epic space battle that rages across your office.

Image of Palm Trees On Empty Beach Scene CanvasNow, we’ve all sat in our offices and dreamed of being somewhere else. For me, I’m always thinking of a beautiful sandy beach, which is why I love this printed canvas. If my workload ever gets too much, I just look at the palm trees and the blue skies and I can almost feel the sun on my face. Bliss!

Whether you’re working from home or in an office, being happy with your surroundings is a really important factor in feeling comfortable with your job. After all, you spend so much of your day there! We hope our wall stickers, canvasses and wallpapers will help to brighten up your workspace and will make your day go just that little bit quicker!

A Jubilee-themed room!

It’s been a while since our last themed room blog post, but when I was looking through our unusual wallpapers for yesterday’s blog, I was hit by inspiration! What better way to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee than with a room makeover? This style would be fantastic to create a really patriotic bedroom, perhaps even a great way to get into the spirit of things by revamping your office.

To start, paint your walls white. Then, using masking tape and a spirit level, paint a bold blue stripe around the top of each wall, with a red one underneath. You can make these as thick as you like.

Image of London Bridge On Union Jack

The next step is to pop our fantastic London Bridge on Union Jack custom wallpaper on one wall. Choose a wall without too much furniture to create a fantastic statement piece.

Next, we get to play with some wall stickers! There are three that I think are perfect: London Skyline 1, London Skyline 2 and Rose 2 colour.

The two skyline wall stickers would work equally well in black, blue or red, so it comes down to your personal preference. The rose wall sticker would look great anywhere in the room, and in any size, so again it’s all up to you!

Now that your walls are all decorated, it’s time to accessorise! Anything with a Union Jack, or that’s white, blue or red would look fantastic. You could even branch into 1970’s, mod-inspired items too. Just remember, the bolder the better!

Don’t forget that we always love to see any of your interior design successes. You can Tweet us any pictures on Twitter at @CustmWallDesign, or tag us in them on Facebook. Let’s see what you can do with the Jubilee spirit!

Image of Apocalyptic Desert

Now, we know that our Unusual Gems are not to everyone’s tastes, but used in the right room they will look incredible. I think that our Apocalyptic Desert wallpaper is testament to that. Personally, I love it, and I think that it would be perfect for a teenager’s bedroom; especially if they love their heavy metal!

Image of Graffiti Wallpaper

While you may instantly see our Graffiti Wallpaper and think that it belongs in a teenager’s bedroom, I think it would make a really funky addition to a studio, classroom or even an office. It will certainly help to brighten things up and may even provide a little bit of inspiration.

Image of Plasticine Wallpaper

Finally, I really love this Plasticine Wallpaper. I think it would look great in a child’s playroom or bedroom, and would make a great alternative to the usual cartoon animals.

I think the best thing about our Unusual Gems wallpaper is that it shows that here at Custom Wall Designs, we have something for everyone. From more traditional patterned wallpapers, to children’s designs, we have something to suit all tastes and design ideas.

Surprise Dad for Father’s Day

If you want to make Father’s Day really special, why not surprise your dad with a room makeover? If he has his own space such as an office, but it’s a bit drab and dull, just get him out of the house for a few hours.

Our wallpaper borders, canvasses, posters and wall stickers are a quick and easy way to transform a room. While your dad’s enjoying a pint or two or a meal down the pub, you’ll have plenty of time to create your masterpiece. You might even have time to hang a custom wallpaper!

Also, our fantastic range ensures that whatever your dad’s tastes or hobbies, we have something for him. If he likes escaping to the country to fish, go with a mountain scene poster or if he’s in the Navy, try a Nautical wall sticker or two.

Once you’re finished with the makeover, all you have to plan is the exciting reveal! Whether you leave him to discover it himself, or do it Changing Rooms style with his eyes closed, your Dad will love it.

Great for Spring: Lace, and the wallpapers that match.

According to the Guardian, the look for spring is lace. Well, lace, crochet and broderie anglaise (And I suppose it isn’t really spring any more).  This results in a beautifully classy, vintage look, that’s absolutely beautiful. You can find a link to the article below, and if you’ve been inspired then take a look at two of our wallpapers that match this look perfectly.

Image of Victorian Motif Pattern Wallpaper

While it’s not strictly a “lace” design, I think that this Victorian motif wallpaper complements the traditional look of the lace really well, especially in black and white. It would look perfect on one wall, but then you could frame a section of it in an antique frame. This would create a great look on an opposite wall, and help tie the room together.

Image of Paisley Patterned Wallpaper

If you’re after something a little more modern or laid-back, this paisley wallpaper is perfect. It’s really pretty and delicate, and would look fantastic in a young or teenage girl’s bedroom.  We also have the matching poster available, so you could do the same trick as above with the frame.

If you’ve decided to go with the lace theme this month, let us know! We’d love to see pictures, and I’m sure that our readers would love some extra inspiration! You can leave a comment below, or contact us via Facebook or Twitter.

Quirky Wallpapers

Another peek on the Guardian’s Life & Style pages led me to this article, about a couple who bought their 1930’s London flat and turned it into a colourful haven of quirky, vintage design. I simply adore the use of bold colours in eye-catching and unconventional ways, and it got me trawling through our custom wallpapers to see if I could emulate this.

Image of Retro Circles Wallpaper                   Image of Retro Squares Wallpaper

I think our Retro Circles and Retro Squares wallpapers are ideal for capturing the vintage spirit. They look fantastic, and are sure to take your guests’ breath away. The great thing is that they’re also available as posters, if you’re not quite brave enough to commit a whole wall. You could even take it a step further by cutting the design into circles and pasting them onto a wall.

Whatever your theme, style or design idea, we’re sure to have the custom wallpaper, poster, canvas or wall sticker that’s perfect for you!

Create your own reading corner!

Having a flick through the Guardian’s Interiors pages this morning led me to a great article about how to create your own cosy reading corner. The article features plenty of chunky blankets, retro furniture and stylish lamps; ideal for turning a corner of any room into a literary haven.

Image of Oscar Wilde Quote Wall Sticker

While the Guardian’s article is great for the furniture and accessories, I couldn’t help but think that one of our quote wall stickers would make the perfect finishing touch. While our range includes quotes from great thinkers such as Churchill and Einstein, I think that our Oscar Wilde one is easily the best choice.

If you’re going for a traditional reading corner, the sticker would look amazing in bronze or gold for a touch of traditional class. But, if you prefer a modern, funky look, any of the bright pinks or blues would look fantastic.

Whatever your tastes or design ideas, Custom Wall Designs are sure to have the perfect wall sticker for you!

2-colour wall stickers!

Did you know that we now offer wall stickers that use two colours, and that both can be completely personalised?

Corner Flowers 2 Wall Sticker

Our corner flowers are a great example. The vines and flowers are one colour, while the petal accents are another. Personalising the sticker to your tastes and needs are as simple as picking your two colours from the drop-down menus. You can even see the colours change in front of you, so you can see just how your sticker will look.

We’re really excited to be able to offer these new wall stickers, so let us know if you’re planning to use them for a new interior design project. We’d also love to see pictures of the finished room, so send us a picture on Facebook!

Vinyl Stickers – Not just for walls!

Now, we always say that our vinyl wall stickers are perfect for any use or need, but what if your need wasn’t for a wall? Our stickers are ideal for many uses around the home!

Why not try using our vinyl stickers in other ways? For example, our barcode wall sticker would add a stylish touch to the case of a desktop PC, especially if it’s silver. If you have a laptop or a tablet you could add a wall sticker to the back of it.

If you want to go bigger, our wall stickers are also suitable for decorating furniture or white goods such as fridges or freezers. This works especially well if you have similar or maybe even the same sticker on the walls as it helps tie your whole room together.

So many flat, hard surfaces are just perfect for our wall stickers, so experiment and see what you can come up with. Just don’t forget to show us what you’ve come up with, through the comments on this blog, Facebook or Twitter!
